Your persona is where you’ve paused the VHS tape of you life.
“To watch the sun sink behind a flower-clad hill, to wander on an on in a huge forest without thought of return, to stand upon the shore and gaze after a boat that disappears behind distant islands, to contemplate the flight of wild geese seen and lost among the clouds.”
there is no word in English forthe Japanese word yugen. we can only understand it by describing the situations in which the Japanese use the word.
“Thus vibrations of light and heat from the sun do not actually become light until they interact with a living organism.”
“We are playing a game, and the game runs like this: the only thing you really know is what you can put into words.”
the word: hero.
the implication: delegitimizing anti-war conversation and removing certain questions about war from the sphere of legitimate controversy.
what we know by using it: this word, like any other, can be used to propagandize. I feel sorrow and compassion for every serviceman and woman (and their families) that dies serving the U.S. military because his/her “sacrifice” is one he/she should never have to make. there are plenty of opportunities for heroism in this world without war. there is no reason that any person should have to be a hero for killing other people, especially in wars with falsely publicized purposes in which civilians die needlessly.
love, people. love.
